History



Chongqing is a famous historical city in World War II. The "fog season performance" in the war period has played an important role in both the development of Chinese drama and the victory of the Anti-Japanese War of the Chinese nation. A large number of scholars, such as Guo Moruo, Chen Baichen, and Xin Hanwen, are shining in the drama stage. It is a history of Chinese drama that opens up the wisdom of the people and inspires the national strength, and it is also a brilliant chapter of Chongqing drama culture.




Huangjueping Art District, the largest original ecological art region in Western China, still maintains the building features and strong life atmosphere of the 1980s. Because the Changjiang River flows through this area and surrounds it as the shape of -, which is also known as the "Kowloon Peninsula". There are two chimneys that used to be the tallest in Asia, noisy graffiti streets and an untouched railway. The Sichuan Fine Arts institute, China's higher art academy, had been in the Huangjueping area for 70 years. A large number of outstanding young artists have come out of here to become active in the international art scene, both north and south of the Yangtze River, and they often return to this place where they splashed their youth!










Space



As a first independent experimental theatre with international standard based in Chongqing city , southwest China, YINZI theatre born at 501 Art Base which was rebuilt from an abandon space in red bricks warehouse，with its roots in Huangjueping, the largest ecological visual arts complex in the Southwest, next to the 70-year-old Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. Since June 2011, its founder, Hu Yin, led the team to design and rebuild it. The interior style mixed with original warehouse atmosphere and original arts works（sculptures and paintings) by local artists，making the space of YINZI Theater full of artistic flavor since its birth!




YINZI theatre covers an area of 300 square meters. The space has black ground stage without a frame and three sides audience seats. The space is flexible, which is specially designed for experimental theater-- music, multimedia, and dance, etc. The theater is equipped with 48 stage lights (imaging lights, spotlights, soft lights, etc.). The sound equipment includes 20 channels of operation platform, a pair of main loudspeakers, a pair of auxiliary loudspeakers, and two sets of projection facilities that can project the main and auxiliary stages. We have  65 standard seats, and can also contain a maximum of 120 audiences. We use both the indoor space of the theater for our activities and the public corridor of the 501st Art Base to create environmental theater. Other spaces in the Huangjueping area (such as railroads, warehouses, individual artists' studios, etc.) are also invited to participate in our festival activities.



Artistic Advocacy


We start from the creation of visual arts and focus on the development of contemporary performing arts. We not only explore the possibilities of performance and public space, but also actively build an archive of young independent performance artists in southwest China.

We encourage artists to remain independent while courageously creating new work through collaborations and partnerships at home and abroad.

We hope that everyone who enters the theatre will find clues to the relevance of theatre art to life, and that our audiences will feel the spirituality of artistic creation and experience reflection and sharing of spiritual life.

We offer residencies, independent productions, cultural exchanges, tours and co-creative rehearsals.
